A Message from the Academics Office

Families of the Class of 2024,

Greetings! I hope this email finds you and your family safe and in good spirits. As we approach the end of the school year it is time to start the process for course selection and registration for Academic Year 2020-2021. The information and video included below explain the registration and placement process for the Class of 2024 and also provides you with step by step instructions.

Course Registration Video | HERE
The course registration video, hosted by our Dean of Academics, covers the information that would have been addressed at Registration Night. It will serve as a resource in navigating the freshman curriculum and some of the choices that will need to be made. We recommend you watch this video in its entirety before making course selections. In the video description section, you will find easy to navigate timestamps that will allow you to locate areas of interest.

Course Selection Form | Select Your Courses HERE!
The majority of the freshman curriculum is predetermined. There are some choices such as world language and elective options (music or computer science). The Google Form will ask you to choose the classes that require your input in selecting. The attached video addresses these in detail and descriptions of each choice you must make are included in the document.

Placement and Placement Testing
The honors level of Mathematics, English, World Language, and Science requires placement from the school.

Mathematics - Communication from the school will follow in the next two weeks in regards to the Algebra Placement test. The test will be given in an online format and any student that is looking to be placed in Honors Algebra I, Honors Geometry, Honors Algebra II must complete this exam. The test will be matched with your sons’ middle school transcript before placement is determined. You may find a list of topics that will be included on the test HERE.

English - Placement in Honors English is based on your son’s score on the Entrance Exam taken at Open House. That score will also be matched with your sons’ middle school transcript before placement is determined.

Spanish - If you choose Spanish as your World Language selection and would like to test into Honors Spanish I or Honors Spanish II, a test will be administered by the World Language Department. Based on your response to the Course Selection Form, a member of the department will contact you with the process and next steps.

Science - Placement in Honors Biology is based on your placement in English, Mathematics, and your son’s middle school transcript.

Elective Options
As mentioned in the video, there are some elective options that are available for the Class of 2024. The vast majority of students will enroll in Lifetime Fitness Skills which is a required course for graduation and not choose one of these options. However, if your son is an artist/musician or interested in computer science the school will consider waiving the Lifetime Fitness Skills requirement. This is predicated on the fact that your son will take multiple years of fine/performing arts or computer science. If he does not enroll those disciplines in his sophomore year then he will be held to the Lifetime Fitness requirement.
